These loverly oak cabinets came with our home seven years ago. I despise them.
So, a few years ago I thought I'd jazz them up a bit by staining them a dark cherry finish. And after I was finished I tilted my head and concluded that it was better than the original, but I still wasn't gaga over them. Grreeaatt! Now what? I've got dark stain on my cabinets...
I sat on it for four years. During that time I painted my kitchen wall five times. Yeah, you heard me. Five painstakingly times. And each time I'd pick out a new paint color I thought, "Yes, this is gonna be it, I'm gonna love it." But no amount of positive self talk helped, I really truly hated my kitchen.
And it wasn't the choice of paint color... it was the cabinets.
I really wanted to paint my cabinets. In fact, I wish I would have thought of that brainy idea before I started staining away. Because you can't paint over stain....
....or can you?
I heart this chemical I found that allows you to paint over stain without sanding.. yeah you heard me! Without the sanding step it was still a lot of work.. but this time-
A whole lotta worth it!
